Please call to book your appointment and the receptionist who will take your details, a contact number and a brief description your problem. This allows our team to prioritise your problem or possibly direct you to another health professional who may be more appropriate to deal with your problem. Under our Practice Protocol your call may be from an Advanced Nurse Practitioner or a Doctor.

Our Clinicians aim to call you back either on the same day or a day booked in advance dependent on symptoms and urgency of patients' calls.  

Please note it is not always possible for the doctor of your choice to call you back if there is a high demand of calls.  

Mearns Medical Centre has a large number of patients now registered with the practice.  

We have advanced nurse practitioners (ANPs) employed with the practice; Sister Wilson, Sister Keenan and Sister Henderson.

All three are highly qualified to deal with minor ailments such as coughs, colds, temperature, earache, sore throat, rash, skin complaints, allergies, contraception, back pain, medication queries, results, sexual health and many more medical problems.

Our ANP's are able to prescribe and issue medication at the time of your call/appointment.

If your symptoms do require a GP to see you the nurse practitioner will arrange this.  

Beat the appointments queue! Before you call the Practice about acne, athlete’s foot, constipation, cough, diarrhoea, earache, headache, eczema and allergies, haemorrhoids (piles), hay fever, head lice, indigestion, period pain, thrush, sore throat, threadworms, warts or verrucae - have you asked your pharmacist about treatment for these on the ‘Pharmacy First’ Scheme?

Advice, treatment and medications can be provided through the scheme so patients can access treatment directly from a local pharmacy at no cost. Advice and treatment can be given on a 'walk-in' basis with no appointment needed and patients can leave with the treatments you would receive from your GP surgery. This service is also available at weekends.

We offer early morning surgeries opening from 07:30 on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings.

Our staff and here for pre arranged appointments at this time.  Please note our phone do not divert until 8.30am

On occasion due to low staffing levels and urgent team meetings required our phones will not divert until 9am.   Please listen to the voicemail which will give you an alternative number should you have an emergency between 8.30 and 9am 

If possible please try to telephone reception before 10am if you require a home visit.

A doctor or nurse may phone you back as it may be that your problem can be dealt with by telephone advice, or that it would be more appropriate to send a nurse, or indeed arrange a hospital attendance.

House visits are only available for patients who are housebound because of illness or disability.

Please remember that several patients can be seen in the practice in the time that it takes to make one home visit. There are also better facilities for examining and treating patients at the Surgery.

It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.

You can also complete our appointment cancellation notification request form. This can only be used if your appointment has been arranged for more than 24 hours in advance. (excluding weekends and public holidays). You can also text to cancel your appointment.

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.
